Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif has vowed tough measures to prevent the ongoing "terrorist and militant activities" in the country.
He said: “The Awami League has pledged to root out the latest syndrome of bomb-terrorism from Bangladesh by taking tough measures.”
He came up with the forewarning while speaking at the triennial council of District Awami League at the Eidgah premise of Jessore town on Thursday morning.
He said: “Killing innocent people by hurling petrol bombs can not be called a movement. The AL is determined to root out the arson-terrorism.”
Regarding the proposal on holding dialogue with Khaleda Zia, he said: “The BNP chief will have to shun terror and militant activities, if she wants to hold talks with the government.”
Earlier, Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafar Ullah inaugurated the council at 11am.
In his speech as chief guest, Kazi Zafar Ullah said: “Khaleda Zia is solely responsible for the current situation of the country as she deployed militants in the political field for overpowering the government.”
“She is giving the terrorists both instruction and money for launching arson attacks on people.”
But the militants would not spare Khaleda Zia in the end, he warned.
He also emphasised on the people's role to fight terrorism and secure the democracy.
