Shibir calls nationwide hartal for Sunday

Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, has called a nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal for Sunday.

Shibir President Abdul Jabbar and Secretary General Atikur Rahman declared the shutdown in a statement issued on Friday afternoon.

The hartal call was made protesting what Shibir said killing, oppression and mass arrests of its leaders and activists by the law enforcers.

In the statement, Shibir president and secretary general said: "The illegal government has been killing its leaders and activists by staging shootout drama after arrest."

They claimed the government has chosen the way after being failed to politically face the movement waged in a bid to rescue the people.

They also urged all to observe the hartal peacefully and make it a success.

Earlier in the day, Shibir's Rajshahi Metropolitan unit called a 48-hour hartal in Rajshahi division from Sunday in protest against the killing of its leader in a police “shootout" on Friday.
