2 Jubo Dal activists killed while hurling petrol bomb

Two Jubo Dal members were killed sometime Monday night when overrun by a truck while they were allegedly trying to launch a petrol bomb attack in Jessore.

Police in Jessore’s Manirampur upazila recovered the corpses late Monday night. Advocate Shahid Iqbal, Manirampur municipality mayor and upazila president for BNP, confirmed their identities to journalists.

“They are Yusuf, from Taherpur village, and Liton, Durgapur village in the upazila,” he said.

However, he claimed that there were many journalists and detective members of police who found the deaths “suspicious.” He said around 9:30pm on Monday, unknown miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a truck near Manirampur College. Soon afterward, police arrested Yusuf, 23, and Liton, 28.

“We heard in the morning that police admitted the two, already dead, to Jessore Medical College,” he said.

Jessore Medical College emergency doctor Dr Abdullah Al Mamun said: “On Monday around 4:10am, Manirampur jail’s Superintendent Tasnim brought the bodies.”

Manirumpar jail Officer-in-Charge Mollah Khabiruddin said he learned around 3:15am that there was an accident in Begaritalay on the Jessore-Manirampur road. When he went there, he saw two unconscious bodies laying there, with petrol bombs next to them.

Police said locals told them that the two men came under the truck as they were trying to throw petrol bombs at it. Fire service members and police took the dead bodies to Jessore Medical College.

This correspondent visited the morgue and saw injury marks on many parts of the two bodies. Police said the place where the dead bodies were recovered is a bit far from Manirampur College, near which unknown assailants hurled crude bombs at a pick-up van around 10pm on Monday, injuring two.
