Moudud: BNP did not show due courtesy to PM

BNP did not show proper respect to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when she went to visit Khaleda's office to express condolence at the death of Arafat Rahman Koko, BNP Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed has said on Sunday.

The BNP leader came up with the observation while talking to journalists at Khaleda's Gulshan office in the capital on Sunday.

“On Saturday night, proper courtesy was not shown to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina but BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was completely in dark about the matter."

The BNP leader also said the main gate of the office was under lock and key and they were not aware of it.

“As her (Khaleda) room was closed, news of prime minister’s arrival could not be reached to her at that time,” said Moudud.

When PM’s entourage arrived in Gulshan, BNP chief’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas told media that his boss, who had fallen ill after hearing the news of her son’s demise, was on heavy sedative and therefore could not meet the PM.

“The prime minister could not meet the BNP chairperson today. But she is welcome anytime she wishes to do so in the future,” Shimul told media.

During the PM’s arrival at the BNP’s Gulshan office, the gate was closed and it was not opened for the entry of prime minister.

Khaleda’s youngest son Arafat Rahman Koko died of cardiac arrest in Malaysia around 12:30pm local time on Saturday.
