Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of the ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud has said the BNP puts a dark spot on the political and social chapter by sending Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back from Khaleda's office.
He made the statement while expressing Awami League’s reaction over the incident in a press briefing at the party's Dhanmondi office on Sunday afternoon.
Hasan Mahmud said: “This kind of incident happened in Bangladesh for the first time. They ydisrespected the position of a prime minister. It is totally indecent and frustrating.”
He said: “Leaving all the protocols, the premier waited about 15 minutes in front of Khaleda's office. But It is a matter of regret that none came out to receive her.”
The ruling party leader said they [BNP members] locked the gate five minutes ahead of the premier’s visit, but soon after PM left they opened the gate.
The motorcade of the prime minister had to return as BNP chief khaleda Zia was kept asleep with sedatives following her son's death on Saturday night.
The BNP chief's younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, 44, died in Malaysia from cardiac arrest on Saturday.
