BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said she would stay at her Gulshan political office as long as she wish.
She said: “It is my office. I have many works to be completed. So I can stay here as long as it necessary.”
The BNP chief made the statement while replying to the journalists’ query at Monday's media briefing.
Asked when she would leave the office, Khaleda said: “I can stay here as long as I wish. I will try to step outside. If the government let me go outside, I will understand that the confinement has been lifted.”
“The blockade will be withdrawn as soon as my confinement would be lifted.”
Khaleda briefed the media on Monday evening, hours after all the barricades from her office were withdrawn early Monday.
No sand-laden trucks, iron barricades or water cannon were seen in front of the office, where Khaleda is staying for 15 days.
Additional police were also withdrawn from the office of the former premier.
Immediately before briefing media, Khaleda held a meeting with her top party leaders in order to fix the next course of action.
Khaleda had been kept confined to her Gulshan party office since January 3 ahead of a party rally which was scheduled to be held on January 5, marking the “Democracy Killing Day.”
On January 5, Khaleda tried to come out from her office but the law enforcers barricaded her to go out.
Then, the BNP leader announced indefinite blockade programme which is now underway.
The current blockade has been marked by violence and sporadic clashes between the police and protesters, leaving a number of people killed and injured.
