Khaleda Zia’s office needs to be removed from the diplomatic zone in order to ensure security for the diplomats and foreigners living here, said Awami League leader Hasan Mahmud.
Terming the BNP-led 20-party alliance a rehabilitation centre for terrorists and militants who are carrying out secret attack on women and children, the former minister said the office of the leader of terrorists and militants should not be located inside such an important area.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a programme in the capital yesterday.
“Staying in the diplomatic zone, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is leading secret attacks by petrol bombs on innocent people. Many ambassadors, diplomats and foreigners live in that area. So, I urge the government to remove Khaleda Zia’s political office from Gulshan,” he said.
Khaleda Zia has been staying inside her political office in Gulshan since January 3. BNP claims that she had been kept confined there by the government. Several leaders from the ruling Awami League including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have said she was free to go home.
For several days earlier this month, Dhaka Metropolitan Police kept sand and bricks-laden trucks stationed in front of the office; they said they wanted to ensure Khaleda’s security.
Recently, DMP has decided to bring several areas in the vicinity including Gulshan, Baridhara and Niketon under 400 CCTV cameras. The BNP chief’s Gulshan office has already been put under CCTV camera surveillance.
