The BGB and RAB bosses went out of their jurisdiction when they threatened the anti-government protesters and said they would fight till the last drop of their blood in favour of the ruling force, the BNP-led 20-party alliance has alleged.
In a statement signed by BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman, the 20-party combine advised the bosses of the two security forces to leave their uniforms if they really wanted to do politics.
Earlier in the day, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi issued a statement with similar themes on behalf of the alliance. However, when the statement signed by Selima Rahman was issued in the afternoon, Rizvi withdrew his statement.
Selima Rahman said if there was a government in the country that truly represented the people, the chiefs of the two security forces would have been suspended and brought to trial for their “illegal and out of jurisdiction” remarks.
On Friday, new RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed told in a programme that they would not spare anyone who would kill people through terror acts.
A day before that, Border Guard Bangladesh Director General Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed said in a press briefing that his force would retaliate if blockade supporters attacked them.
Yesterday evening, several law enforcers were injured when blockade supporters hurled a petrol bomb at a police van in the capital. Since the BNP-led alliance’s blockade began, there has been several incidents of law enforcers getting attacked by pickets at different places in the country.
The 20-party alliance said in the statement: ”We strongly deplore such audacious and biased behaviour of those government servants who get their salaries from the hard-earned money that people pay as taxes.”
It also alleged that the government has polluted the security administration by appointing partisan people to the top posts.
“We want to tell all the members of the law enforcement agencies that they are not obliged to abide by the illegal orders and instructions from those biased and ambitious officials. You will remain right by the side of the people against the real criminals and discharge your duties lawfully,” the statement said.
The alliance appreciated the UN’s concerns about the human rights situation in Bangladesh; but it also said they had doubts whether the government would heed UN’s call for “impartial and fair” probe into cases of rights violation.
