BNP led 20-party alliance call hartal in Rajshahi

The BNP led 20-party alliance has declared a 36-hour hartal in Rajshahi division including Chanpainawabganj protesting the killing of a Chhatra Dal activist in a gunfight with Rab on Thursday night.

Harun-ur-Rashid, the organizing Secretary of Rajshahi Division of BNP, confirmed the program to the Dhaka Tribune over phone.

The deceased was identified as Matiur Rahman, son of Montu Ali, of Bajitpur Guhipara village under Shyampur union of Shibganj upazila was the vice-president of Chhatra Dal of Shampur union unit.

Company commander Qamruzzaman Pavel of RAB-5 told the Dhaka Tribune the joint forces in a special operations detained several suspected in connection with subversive activities in front of Shampur School at Shibganj on Thursday. 

As Matiur, among the detainees, confessed his involvement, RAB took him in an operation to recover arms around 3am in the night. Later, the accomplices of Motiur fired on the force, when they reached in Kansat.

RAB also retaliated with firing, Matiur died after being shot as he tried to flee and fell in the firing, the RAB official said.

Later, RAB handed over Matur’s body to Shibganj police Station.

Officer –in- Charge MM Moinul Islam of Shibganj Police Station said the body was sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

The legal procedures were underway in this connection, he said.
