Six activitst of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, have been arrested for their alleged involvement with vandalism.
According to police, in the midnight on Thursday, a group Chhatra Dal and Shibir activists attempted to set fire on a Ena Paribahan bus, blocking it near Auskandi Bazar at Minajpur village in the district.
During the arson attempt, the passengers shouted “robbers, robbers.”
Later, the arsonists fled the spot after the locals rushed to the spot, hearing the shouting of the passengers.
The highway patrol police picked a Shibir activist, Delwar, up in this connection.
On the basis of his information, the police arrested five more Chhatra Shibir activists.
Officer-in-Charge Liaquat Ali of Nabiganj police said they were arrested on charges of vandalism.
