The dawn-to-dusk nationwide hartal called by BNP protesting the heinous attack on Reaz Rahman, former foreign minister and the adviser of Khaleda Zia, has been passed off amid stray incidents of violence on Thursday.
The hartal began around 6am and ended at 6pm on Thursday.
Vehicular movement was normal in the capital city. A huge number of law enforcers were deployed at the important points in Dhaka.
A bus helper has been burnt to death while the bus was torched by miscreants on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Mohishbathan Bottola area under Kaliakoir upazila early Thursday.
The deceased is Tofazzal Hossain, 20, son of Wahed Ali hailing from Narayantala village in Sunamganj district.
Two people have received burn injuries in arson on a cement-laden truck at Ahmadpur under Boraigram upazila in Natore.
The injured are truck driver Ajoy Kumar Dutta, 32, of Narayanganj and helper Rasel Ahmed, from Rajshahi.
Three people have received burn injuries as miscreants hurled a crude bomb at their motorcycle in front of district parishad dak bungalow in Habiganj.
The incident took place around 12:30pm on Thursday.
Hartal supporters have torched a bus and vandalised several other vehicles in different areas of Gazipur during the hartal enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
BNP called a 24-hour nationwide hartal for Thursday protesting attack on its chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Adviser Reaz Rahman.
Reaz was shot and his car was torched in the capital's Gulshan on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, BNP has curtailed Thursday's previously announced 24-hour hartal across the country to 12 hours.
