14-party to form countrywide committees to resist subversive acts

The Awami League-led 14-party alliance will constitute “anti-subversive acts committees” in every ward and localities across the country to hand over anyone involved in acts of terrorism in the name of siege programme to the law enforcement agencies.

Awami League Presidium member Mohammad Nasim, who is also the spokesman for the 14-party alliance, yesterday disclosed the decision to reporters after a meeting of the alliance at party chief Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office, reports BSS.

“In accordance with the announcement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the anti-subversive acts committees will be constituted across the country including Dhaka. The committees will create awareness among people against all acts of anarchy. The members of these committees will also extend cooperation to the law enforcement agencies,” Nasim said.

Calling upon the law enforcers to be tougher in facing all the activities of terrorism, Nasim said: “Question does not arise for any concession to those creators of anarchy. Those who resort to falsehood should not get any concession.”

The minister held BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia responsible for clandestine attacks in the name of siege programme, saying: “At her directives, terrorists of Jamaat-Shibir have been carrying out the attacks. By staging a drama of being under siege, she has given money to the terrorists to take to the field and they have been torching people to death. Can it be called a movement? It is a cowardice act, nothing else. In reality, Begum Zia is desperate to save the Jamaat leaders.”

He said those who have been causing harm to the country by throwing destructive programmes like hartal and siege should not have any democratic right. “We would like to ask the BNP leadership to discard terrorism and stop playing broken records of falsehood. We will request the administration to be tougher on those terror-mongers and allow no concession to them.”

Nasim said: “Normalcy has been prevailing in the country but a sense of panic is persisting among the people. The terrorists have no party. Though soldiers of Khaleda have not taken to the field, her terrorists are ruling the roost and that is why they have been launching clandestine attacks.”

Convener of the Communist Kendra Dr Wazedul Islam Khan chaired the meeting of the 14-party alliance attended, among others, by AL organising secretaries AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Executive President Mainuddin Khan Badal, Workers’ Party General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, Tariquat Federation President Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari, Ganatantri Party General Secretary Nurur Rahman Selim, National Awami Party leader Ismail Hossain, Jatiya Party Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam, AL Information Secretary Afzal Hossain and AL Central Working Committee member Enamul Haque Shamim.
