There is no possibility of holding midterm polls and dialogue in the country, Awami League Advisory Council member and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Political Adviser HT Imam has said.
HT Imam said this while speaking as the chairperson at a seminar on "Forward march of democracy and one year's successes" organised by Publicity and Publication sub-committee of the ruling Awami League at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers in the capital, reports BSS.
"BNP has to pay the price for the mistake it committed by not taking part in the last national polls. Awami League and people of the country will not take responsibility of their mistake," Imam said.
He said the country's constitution, democracy and continuation of development could be protected likewise Bangladesh could be saved from the emergence of militancy through the last national polls.
HT Imam said: "As a usurper of state power, founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman floated the party (BNP). He established BNP by utilising the state machinery and with the assistance and recommendation of a foreign intelligence agency. All the activities of an illegal government are illegal. So, BNP as a political party is illegal. Moreover, he (Zia) introduced loan defaulting culture in the country."
"Those who believe in the spirit of the war of liberation have got the right to live in the country and those who don't, have no right to live in Bangladesh."
HT Imam also underscored the need for exerting pressure on British government to send back home BNP leader Tarique Rahman from London.
Former vice-chancellor of Chittagong University Prof Dr Abdul Mannan presented the keynote paper on the topic of the seminar in which Awami League (AL) publicity and publication affairs secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud gave the introductory speech and deputy publicity and publication secretary Asim Kumar Ukil moderated it.
Eminent journalist and columnist Abed Khan, noted security analyst Maj Gen (Retd) Abdur Rashid, AL joint general secretary Dr Dipu Moni, Bangladesh Itihas Samity (history society) general secretary Prof Dr Mezbah Kamal and chief executive of Ekattor television Mozammel Babu were the discussants.
