Amu: BNP’s movement to save war criminals

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has opined that the nationwide violent movement being run by BNP is not for an election, only to thwart the war crimes trial.

“BNP’s prime aim is to destroy the ideology of the Liberation War and that is why its chairman Khaleda Zia and her activists have been conducting brutal activities across the country to save war criminals in name of democratic movement,” Amu said it in an inauguration programme of distributing warm cloths and educational materials to the poor and meritorious primary school students on the Arts Faculty premises of Dhaka University yesterday.

The Awami League’s student body Bangladesh Chahtra League (BCL) organised the event as part of their 67th founding anniversary programme.

AL Advisory Council member also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had offered several ministries including the Home Ministry to Khelada Zia in the pre-election government in last year but she refused it that time.

Later he questioned the rationality of the demand of election by Khaleda.

The minister also criticised violence during the countrywide blockades such as petrol bomb attack as well as torching vehicles and he urged upon BNP to retreat from the violent path.

BCL President HM Badiuzzaman Shohag chaired the programme where DU Arts Faculty Dean prof Mohammad Akhatruzzaman, BCL former president Bahadur Bepari and former General Secretary Mahfujul Haider Chowdhury Rotan were present among others.

In the event, BCL distributed educational materials and warm clothes among 2,000 poor and meritorious children, which it is also going to distribute warm garments among the destitute distress in the northern districts from next week.
