60 injured in BNP, police clash at Chandpur

At least 60 people including 20 police have been injured during a clash at Hajigonj of Chandpur on Tuesday night. Local BNP claims that one of their activists has died of the clash.

The incident took place from about 9 pm to 12 am on Tuesday at Enayetpur area on Dhaka-Chandpur Highway.

Assistant police super of Hajigonj, Abu Hanif told that the supporters of blockade took place on the road since Monday afternoon and vandalised many cars. On Tuesday evening police forces from Shahrasti, Hajigonj and Kachua police station commenced an operation to take the situation under control. They uses 320 rounds of fire and 10 rounds of tear shells.

At least 20 police and 40 BNP activists were injured during the clash, he added.

Former vice president of Upazilla unit of BNP, ABul Bashar Gila has claimed that one of their party members called AL-Amin of Toragor village died of bullet during that clash.

However, Assistant police super of Hajiganj, Abu Hanif has denied any news of death.
