Hanif: Khaleda even doesn't care about Ijtema

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia even does not care about the Biswa Ijtema scheduled to be held on January 9, a senior Awami League leader has asserted.

Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint secretary general of ruling Awami League, made the assertion while addressing a press conference in the party’s Dhanmondi office on Tuesday, the third day of the confinement of the BNP chief.

Claiming that the religious belief of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is feeble, Hanif said: “She uses religion only for the sake of her political benefit. She even does not think about the Biswa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of the Muslim after Hajj.”

The second largest congregation of Muslim believers, Bishwa Ijtema, will commence on next Friday.

"But Khaleda Zia did not show any respect to it. Rather her party men are creating panic among the devotees by conducting nationwide sabotage," said the AL leader.

Hanif said: “Pilgrims from home and abroad will be unable to join this holy congregation as BNP is creating chaos through their political programmes and ongoing strikes.”

The Awami League leader also alleged that a team of Ijtema organisers attempted to meet Khaleda but she denied to talk to them, showing “lame excuse.”

Hanif further said: “Khaleda's party men even conducted subversive activities at the holy night of Eid-e-Miladunnnabi, the birth and death anniversary of the Prophet(Sm).

He also stated that Khaleda's acts are proving that she does not bother people but only cherishes power for herself by any means so that she can protect her corrupt son and her war criminal political allies Jamat-e-Islami.

He urged Khaleda to shun the path of violence and stage peaceful programme.

The first phase of Biswa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslims after Hajj, will begin on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi on January 9.

On the other development, the BNP has been enforcing non-stop nationwide blockade from Monday afternoon, protesting Khaleda's confinement.
