AL-BNP clash injures 20 in Bandarban

Some 20 people have received injuries during a clash between the members of the Awami League and the BNP in the district on Monday.

The injured have been admitted to Bandarban Sadar Hospital.

Locals said the members of ruling Awami League and the BNP locked into a clash around 12 noon, leaving at least 20 people injured on both sides.

The AL members have vandalised the BNP office and a business establishment of the district unit BNP President Osman Goni.

Later, the police rushed in and bring the situation under control.

District unit BNP General Secretary Azizur Rahman alleged that the members of the ruling party attacked them while they were staging a peaceful programme.

On the other hand AL Joint General Secretary Lakshmipada Das claimed that the BNP men attacked them without any provocation.

Bandarban Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Amir Hossain said: “We have picked seven BNP members up from the spot in order to bring the situation under control.”

“Additional law enforcers have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward situation.”
