At least 10 people have been injured in a factional clash of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Biswanath upazila unit of Sylhet over establishing supremacy.
Sources said tense situation was prevailing recently between JCD’s new convener Matiur Rahman Sumon and its member Shah Amir Uddin.
Sumon group organised a rally on Saturday in the upazilla sadar on the eve of JCD’s founding anniversary. Being informed, Amir group locked the upazila BNP office.
Later, the rival came into the spot and opened the lock. At one stage, they locked into clashes, threw brickbats to each other and turned Biswnath upazilla sadar into battlefield at 3:20pm, leaving 10 JCD activists of both groups injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the JCD activists, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Biswanath police station.
“Some JCD activists of both factions were injured, but the exact number was not known immediately,” the OC said.
Police are not aware of locking the BNP office, Rafiqul added.
