BNP blames govt for Kamalapur accident

The government’s insincerity, mismanagement and negligence caused the train-covered van crash inside the Inland Container Depot (ICD) of Kamalapur Railway Station killing six people, according to the BNP.

“This fatal accident has again proved that the government has totally failed to ensure the security of people’s lives. Accidents these days have become a routine affair due to the government’s mismanagement,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

“The government’s mismanagement, negligence and lack of accountability have reached a worrisome level. Now the authorities of service-providing government departments and institutions are unconcerned about their duties which cause regular loss of lives in frequent accidents.”

Fakhrul made the allegations at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital.

At least six people were killed and nine others seriously injured as a covered van crashed into a moving train on a level-crossing inside the Inland Container Depot (ICD) of Kamalapur Railway Station yesterday.

Fakhrul said only two days ago a little boy, Jihad died as he fell into a deep pipe of an abandoned water pump, also because of the negligence of the authorities concerned.

The BNP leader said there is no respite from accidents on roads and rail and waterways due to the utter negligence and carelessness of the government about ensuring public safety.
