Khaleda condemns Gayeswar's detention

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has strongly condemned the detention of BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeswar Chandra Roy saying that “it reflects the autocratic character of the illegal government.”

In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, Khaleda said: “The illegal government has increased repression on the BNP leaders and activists as a component to stay in the power forever.”

“The Awami League government is suppressing the BNP members in order to express its vengeance. Such activities reflect the government's autocratic character.”

The BNP chief demanded immediate release of Gayeswar and called upon the authorities to withdraw all “false” cases filed against him.

She also demanded immediate and unconditional release of all detained BNP members.

Claiming that all important government positions have been replaced by the devoted Awami League members, she said: “The illegal government has turned the law enforcing agencies into a gang of miscreants and using them as a component against the BNP.”

She also blamed the law enforcing agencies' members for the ongoing incidents of killings and disappearances across the country and said: “The law enforcers failed to ensure the security of the common people of the country. Rather, they are busy in using their power against the BNP leaders and activist.”

She observed that law and order situation deteriorated since the Awami League-led government had taken the power.

“It thought that it would stay in the power forever by snatching people's rights of voting. As they[Awami League members] failed to get people's support, they continue their acts of vengeance and violence on their opponents,” she added.

The statement also claims that the ongoing incidents of killings and abductions are being conducted by the “cadres” of Chhatra League and Jubo League in order to resist people, ousting the “illegal government.”

Referring to Wednesday's Bakshibazar incident, Khaleda said: “The incidents made me think that the government has declared a violent war against the BNP. In-fact, the war has been declared against the people.”

“The Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina herself is leading the terrorist gang as she loves her position more than the country.”

She said the entire country has been turned into a jail.

“But the people will not accept this and they are getting ready to stage massive demonstration in order to end the era of the illegal government.”
