BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia suggested that the prime minister reined-in the 'goons' affiliated with Chatra league and Juba league – the student and the youth wings of the Awami league.
The verbal rally comes as a response to Sheikh Hasina's call that Khaleda enleashed her son Tarique Rahman from uttering controversial, derogatory comments.
Khaleda made the comments while addressing a Thursday afternoon program at the Engineers' institution in the capital.
The BNP senior vice-chairman, wanted in several corruption and criminal cases, has been in exile for six years. Tarique has been making frequent news since the Januray 5 elections by rendering his version of the history of Bangladesh's liberation war and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. His comments have been generating widespread outrage and controversy.
In her speech, the BNP chief also claimed that the oil-tanker that capsized in the Sundarbans, is part of a controversy to destroy the Sundarbans.
Khaleda reiterated that the January 5 elections, and the parliament that resulted from it are 'illegal,' adding that the economy is now enduring a disaster under the rule of the AL government. She also said that there can be no fair election under the this government.
She claimed people rejected the January 5 election, and refrained from voting.
Khaleda said the people will not vote for Awami league for its corruption.
She claimed that panic prevails in the administration due to the politicisation that Awamy League is installing at every level of it.
She said under the the rule of “the unelected government,” chaos has ensued is all spheres of life.
In her speech, she demanded that the trial of the cases against Sheikh Hasina be resumed.
However, she further alleged the judges in the courts rule considering the political orientation of the cases.
Khaleda Zia said, the government is so afraid of the popularity of BNP that it doesn't permit BNP's rallies.
