Suranjit: Quader Molla son’s remarks amount to contempt of court

Awami League Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta yesterday said the recent remarks of Hasan Jamil, son of Quader Molla who was given capital punishment for crimes against humanity, on the review of his father’s verdict was tantamount to contempt of court.

“Quader Molla’s son remarked that the Supreme Court killed his father. Such remarks were objectionable, similar to contempt of court and contradictory to the constitution,” he said while addressing a discussion at the Diploma Engineers Institute in the capital yesterday.

Describing the remarks of some BNP leaders on the Dhaka City Corporation polls as unwarranted, Suranjit said: “BNP should make its stance clear whether it wants DCC polls or not. The fact is that the city dwellers want that the polls be held, no matter what the BNP chairperson says about this. So, the polls should be held expeditiously for the sake of democracy.”

“The cat came out of the sack after the European Union in its recent statement said they have no comments on the polls in Bangladesh,” added the Awami League leader.

Dhaka City Awami League Vice-president Faezuddin Miah, Bangabandhu Academy leader Abdul Hye Kanu and Assistant Secretary of Awami League sub-committee Barrister Zakir Hossain addressed the discussion among others.
