The Awami League-led 14-party alliance yesterday announced rallies in the upazilas across the country in January in protest at what it said a plot by the BNP-Jamaat alliance to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Health Minister Mohammed Nasim announced the rallies, which would be held from January 15 to 22, while addressing a press briefing following a meeting with the 14-party central leaders at Hasina’s Dhanmondi office in the capital.
Chaired by Samyabadi Dal President Dilip Barua and moderated by Nasim, the meeting’s agenda was the present political situation of the country.
Nasim at the briefing said the BNP-Jamaat alliance had been defeated by the 14-party in every way possible and its leaders are now conspiring to kill the prime minister by instigating militants.
“We were shocked when we learned about the plot to kill the prime minister by a group of militants in a neighbouring country,” he said.
Nasim thanked the Indian intelligence officials for unearthing the plot of the militants. He also claimed the BNP-Jamaat alliance is plotting to kill Sheikh Hasina with the help of several international militant organisations.
“The militants detained by the Indian intelligence officials had disclosed who incited them,” he said.
The Awami League presidium member said the next general election would be held under the incumbent government in accordance with the constitution.
Speaking at a conference of Bogra district unit of Awami League on Wednesday, Nasim said no election would be held even a day before 2019. He also said Hasina would make it a hat trick as the prime minister after winning the next elections.
