AL: BNP leaders’ sentiment hurt as Joy spoke truth

Awami League’s publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said, the BNP leaders were making derogatory remarks about Sajeeb Wazed Joy as he spoke the truth about Ziaur Rahman.

The ruling party leader made the comment at a press conference at the party’s Dhanmondi office yesterday.

“BNP’s sentiment was hurt by Joy’s comment. So the party leaders, including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, are making derogatory comments about the prime minister’s son,” Hasan said.

He  advised the BNP leaders to concentrate on their characters, adding that Joy was a famous computer scientist and had been serving as the prime minister’s ICT adviser without any remuneration.

Earlier at a discussion programme on Friday, Joy alleged that the BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was a Pakistani agent in disguise during the liberation war.

Joy labelled the BNP as a party of collaborators “as the party collaborates with Jamaat-e-Islami and opposes the trial of the war criminals.”

In the press conference Hasan Mahmud echoed Joy and said, “A Pakistani Brigadier sent an appreciation letter to Ziaur Rahman during the liberation war. It proves that Zia was a Pakistani agent.”

“Zia was also involved in Bangabandhu’s murder as a Pakistani agent,” he added.
