At least five persons were injured when two factions of Kurigram Polytechnic Institute Chhatra League locked in clash over forming a new committee. Police charged baton and used tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
The clash broke out when one of the groups tried to bring out a rally yesterday in support of the newly formed Chhatra League committee of the district. The other group, mostly consisting of the deprived activists, swooped on the rally. At that time, president of the newly formed committee Wahidunnabi Sagor and general secretary Shafiqul Islam Sakib got injured. Agitated students vandalised university property in protest of the attack.
Police super Mohammad Tobarok Ullah said, the situation was in control and extra police force had been appointed to avert any untoward incident.
