Awami League names 74 members of central committee

The ruling Awami League has announced the names of 74 out of 81 members of its central executive committee, advisory council, parliamentary broad and local government nomination board. The committee was finalised at the meeting of the newly formed Presidium, presided over by party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Friday evening. After the meeting, the committee was expected to be announced by General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday morning at the Dhanmondi party office. But he did not hold any press briefing and left the party office after an hour. Later, the names were released in a statement signed by Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap. The party is yet to declare the names of three secretaries, three Presidium members and a deputy secretary. Obaidul announced 18 names of the new central working committee on October 24, a day after the country’s oldest organisation re-elected Hasina as its president for the eighth consecutive term and chose former Presidium member Obaidul as the general secretary at its 20th national council. Hasina announced the names of 16 out of 19 Presidium members and the four joint secretaries at the council. The 38-member advisory council announced Saturday has four new faces – Shafique Ahmed, AFM Ruhal Haque, Satish Chandra Roy and Yeafes Osman. On the other hand, KM Shafiullah was removed from the council. The 11 members of the parliamentary board are Sheikh Hasina, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Suranjit Sengupta, Syed Ashraful Islam, Kazi Zafarullah, Obaidul Quader, Prof Dr Alauddin Ahmed and Md Rashidul Islam. The newly-formed local government election board comprises 19 members. They are Sheikh Hasina, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Suranjit Sengupta, Syed Ashraful Islam, Kazi Zafrullah, Abul Hasnat Abdullah, Mohammad Nasim, Abdur Razzak, Faruk Khan, Obaidul Quader, Prof Dr Alauddin Ahmed, Md Rashidul Islam, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdus Sobhan Golap. The three secretary posts that are lying vacant are international affairs secretary, science and technology secretary, and youth and sports secretary.
