Activists of Ishwarganj upazila unit of BNP in Mymensingh are confused over two committees formed by former members of parliament Shah Nurul Kabir Shahin and Khurram Khan Chowdhury.
Party sources said Shah Nurul Kabir, who is the convener of Ishwarganj upazila unit of BNP, organised a meeting on September 17 at his house, where he announced a new upazila BNP committee consisting only nine members. Shahin held the post of president and Farid Uddin held the post of general secretary in the new committee.
On the other hand, Ishwarganj upazila BNP organised a biennial meeting on September 24 at the party office in the municipality, but they had to transfer the venue to Char Hossainpur as the local administration imposed section 144 in the area on that day. In that meeting a committee of 101 members was announced by Convener of Mymensingh North unit of BNP Khurram Khan Chowdhury. Engineer Lutfullahel Majed Babu was the president and AKM Harun-or-Rashid was the general secretary of the new committee.
Nasir Ullah, a member of Ishwarganj unit of BNP, said the Lutfullahel’s enthusiasm and support revitalised the inactive party members.
When contacted, Shah Nurul Kabir Sahin said his committee was legal as he is the convener of Ishwarganj upazila BNP. However, Lutfullahel Majed Babu said Khurram Khan Chowdhury announced the new committee of 101 members in a meeting following regulations of the organisation.
Convener of Mymensingh North unit of BNP Khurram Khan Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune that the committee announced at the biennial meeting was the legal one.
