The Gaye Halud (turmeric on the body) ceremony of the wedding of Railway Mazibul Haque Mujib and Honufa Akter Rikta is underway on Wednesday. The ceremony began around 12pm at Krishibid Institution at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Khamarbari area in the capital. On October 27, the procession carrying gifts from the 68 years groom's side house in Basuara village in Chouddagram of Commilla went to the bride's house at Mirakhola village of Chandina upazila of the same district, as per the ritual of the ceremony. At the venue on Wednesday's program, three stages had been set, one for the groom, another for the bride, while cultural presentations were offered from another stage at the site. Singer Momtaz, also MP, was coordinating the cultural arrangements, and also set to mark the occasion with her performance in the evening, while seven other MPs led by Tarana Halim, MP, are in charge of coordinating the whole program. Chouddagram upazila vice-chairman Rasheda Akhter said, The Chief Whip Abdus Shahid, Sheikh Selim, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Women and Children Affairs Minister Meher Afroz Chumki, Tajul Islam MP, Apu Ukil, and AL leader Afzal Khan among others were present at the occasion. She said, after the end of the event around 4pm, the bride Honufa Akter Rikta will return to her village home, where her neighbors and relatives will perform their part.
