Two BNP leaders, who are wanted in many cases, have fled a discussion programme to avert arrest.
The leaders are Savar upazila Chairman Kafil Uddin and female Vice-Chairman Mini Akhter.
According to the organisers, the leaders were invited to join a discussion programme, marking National Sanitation Month.
The upazila administration organised a rally and discussion at the upazila on Tuesday.
Kafil Uddin joined the discussion as the chief guest while Mini Akhter was a special guest.
During the discussion, a patrol team of police entered the upazila auditorium premises around 12 noon, making the guests nervous, said the organisers.
At one stage, they left the programme to avert arrest as they were wanted in some cases, said Savar UNO Kamrul Hasan Mollah.
Mini Akhter told the Dhaka Tribune: “Many cases, including murder cases have been filed against us during the hartals in the last year. We had information that the police would conduct a drive against us. So we left the programme to avert arrest.”
While contacted, Kafil Uddin denied to make any comment over the issue.
Among others, Savar upazila Assistant Engineer (Janashastha) Samiul Haque was present during the programmes.
