Kader apologises to nation for Latif’s remarks

Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddique yesterday apologised to the Almighty and the nation for the derogatory remarks on Hajj and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) made by his elder brother and Posts and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddique.

“Awami League presidium member and minister Latif is nobody to me, but in person he is my brother. I apologise for his remarks on hajj as it has shocked the nation and hurt our religious sentiments,” he added while addressing at a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital.

He also prayed to the Almighty to help his brother to repent for his comments.

Saying his brother’s comments were not merely a “personal opinion,”  Kader Siddique claimed that it was a deliberate attempt of the “illegitimate government to shift the focus of the people in a bid to distract them from raging movements for voting rights.”

Earlier on September 28, Latif Siddique made comments on hajj while addressing a reception arranged by the Tangail expatriates in New York, USA.

The minister’s “derogatory” comments on hajj have sparked widespread criticism both at home and abroad.
