The Mirsarai unit of BNP yesterday called a dawn to dusk hartal in the upazila for tomorrow, demanding immediate arrest of the killers of former convener Adil Mahmud Chowdhury of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal of the upazila in Chittagong.
BNP Mirsarai unit Convener Nurul Amin said the party will also organise protest rallies and processions in all wards of the upazila today to press home their demand.
Meanwhile, Abu Taher Chowdhury, father of Adil, 25, lodged a case with Mirsarai police station accusing 16 named and 12 unidentified persons, Officer-in-Charge of the station Imtiaz Bhuiyan said.
The plaintiff complained that land ownership dispute between the victim and some neighbours was the reason behind the murder. However, police did not disclose any name of Adil’s rivals for the sake of the investigation.
On Thursday around 9pm, some miscreants stabbed Adil to death in the upazila’s Bhorer Bazar under Shaherkhil union. Later, doctors of a local clinic pronounced him dead.
The OC said no one was yet arrested in this connection till the filing of this report. Police were conducting drives to arrest the killers, he added.
