JCD clash in Sylhet over formation of new committee

A man was injured during yesterday’s shutdown when activists of the newly-formed committee of Chhatra Dal and those who claimed they had been unfairly excluded from the committee in Sylhet chased and counter-chased each other.

Abdul Karim, 25, who belonged to the deprived group, was injured and there was also an explosion of crude bombs, said Sub-Inspector of Kotwali police station Mobasshir.

Chhatra Dal sources said Sylhet city Chhatra Dal President Nurul Alam Siddiqui Khaled led a protest march at Jailroad area around 7:45am which ended at Nayashorok. Soon, several Chhatra Dal men of the deprived group led by Rezaul Karim Nachan arrived there, and they got embroiled in chase and counter-chase with members of the Khaled-led group, leaving Karim injured.

Mobasshir said they arrived at the scene after being informed of the unrest.

Chhatra Dal sources said the district and city committees organised marches in some other areas including Chowkidekhi and Mirabazar.

On Thursday, the new committees for Sylhet district and city units of Chhatra Dal were announced.
