‘We never follow any prescription’

The government does not follow any prescription of any foreign country or organisation regarding any state issue, State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said.

The minister made the comments while talking to journalists at his office on Monday.

“We never follow any prescription of any country or organization on any state matter,” Khan said when asked for his stance on the resolution of European Union Parliament that criticised the activities of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Regarding the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s Monday hartal, Kamal said: “There is no influence of hartal in public life as there is no support of the mass people towards the hartal.”

On September 19, the European Union Parliament, in a resolution, expressed concern over human rights violations, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of opposition activists, by the RAB and other security forces.

It urged the government to use minimal force to restore public order and strongly condemned the violent attacks by opposition groups against both the civilians and government targets.

It also urged the government to abolish death penalty.

The joint motion on human rights violations in Bangladesh put forward by over 40 European lawmakers was adopted.
