A Dhaka court yesterday sent local BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar to jail in the sensational Feni Phulgazi upazila Chairman Ekramul Haque murder case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman passed the order when police produced Minar, who is the main accused in the case, before court.
However, Minar’s counsel Abdul Mannan Khan claimed that he did not file any bail petition.
Earlier, Adabor police on Saturday at midnight arrested Minar from BIRDEM Hospital following an arrest warrant issued by a Feni court as the hospital authorities gave him a release letter.
The High Court on July 17 granted him an ad interim bail, but the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court later stayed the bail asking him to surrender before the Feni court within two weeks.
Since Miran went into hiding, the court issued the arrest warrant against him.
On May 20, some armed miscreants gunned down Ekramul Haque, who was also the president of Phulgazi upazila unit AL, and then burnt his body in his car in broad daylight in the district town.
