A Dhaka court has deferred until September 24 the charge frame hearing on an arson case filed against 46 BNP leaders and activists including its acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ataul Hoque passed the order in response to a time petition on Thursday morning.
The petition was filed for six BNP leaders including Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and former Dhaka City Corporation Mayor and BNP Vice Chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka.
The petition sought a halt to the charge frame hearing until the Chamber Judge Court passes its order on the leave to appeal filed with Appellate Division in the case.
A total of 36 BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, MK Anwar and Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain appeared before the court.
The case was lodged in connection with torching a bus in front of the Prime Minister’s Office during the hartal hours on April 29, 2012.
