PM calls Chhatra League to hold spirit of sacrifice

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon Chhatra League to hold the spirit of sacrifice as the core principle of politics.

She also urged to implement the ideologies of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in order to build a poverty free country.

The premier and Awami League President Hasina made the call while addressing a rally of Chhatra League at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Sunday.

Hasina recalled the role and sacrifice of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his wife Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib during the Liberation War and also the post independence period.

She said after the murder of Bangabandhu, Ziaur Rahman established a reign of killers and military dictators, a legacy that was later carried forward by HM Ershad and Khaleda Zia by rewarding the murderers of Bangabandhu.

She said Ziaur Rahman had distorted the constitution and paved way for the war criminals to get into politics.

She added that while Zia restored the war criminals in the politics his wife Khaleda Zia brought the killers of Bangabandhu in the parliament.

The Awami League chief claimed that Khaleda Zia had promoted the police officer who attempted to kill her in Laldighi in Chittagong during military dictator Ershad's rule.

That incident left a number of Awami League activists dead, she mentioned.

After every revolution a group emerges that try to become rich and elite quickly by plundering state's properties.

Such plundering was patronised by Ziaur Rahman who not only killed the activists of pro-liberation political parties, but also a number of defence personnel, she added.

She called upon the Chhatra League activists to take oath against the politics of greed and plundering.
