Information Minister and JSD leader Hasanul Haque Inu said Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman are talking nonsense after the revelation of the historic fact of the crimes committed by BNP founder Gen Ziaur Rahman.
Inu made this response in the social media network Facebook to the recent remarks made by BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her son, the party's second in command.
In the response, given in his official page, Inu said after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Gen Zia was promoted to the army chief as the first beneficiary of Khandaker Mushtaque and the killers.
Gen Zia's mysterious silence as the deputy chief of army at the time of Bangabandhu murder still rises suspicion among the countrymen, said the JSD leader.
Khaleda Zia, her son and her party have no answer regarding the questions about Zia's involvement in the murder of Bangabandhu, his promotion to army chief by the killers, the murder of Col Taher during his rule, killing of 5,000 army members, the persecution of political activists, the import of collaborators of Pakistani occupation forces under his rule, and his effort to save the war criminals, Inu claimed.
So, the mother and the son are making such comments to divert the public attention to different direction in order to hide the involvement and conspiracy of Zia in the killing of Bangabandhu and his other misdeeds, said the minister.
Inu said: "It is nothing new, they personally attacked me personally and my party before in the same way, particularly when I talked clearly against the violence and militant activities, killings, corruption of Begum Khaleda Zia.
"I would like to make it clear again in reply to comments made by Khaleda Zia that all know about the position of JSD during Bangabandhu regime," he said.
"We had a political role, but we were not plotting. It was the JSD which took a clear position against the killings."
The JSD protested within the first 48 hours after the murder of the Father of the Nation, against Mushtaque and the other killers, said the JSD leader.
He said: "At that time the party was banned, but we demanded the removal of Mushtaque and trial of the killers of Bangabandhu in our leaflets and processions."
In the 82 days of the rule by killer Mushtaque, none of the JSD activists were released from the prison, he added.
Not only that, the murderers killed JSD leaders and activists in that time. Our list includes the names of at least a hundred activists. In particular, in Bogra, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Chittagong regions, the killers were instigated against JSD leaders, and unlimited violence came down on them, he alleged.
"It happened as JSD and I opposed killer Mushtaque and the killers of Bangabandhu," Inu said.
He said after 43 years of independence, "it is highly offensive the comment of Begum Khaleda Zia that has been made against the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, quoting some unknown authors."
In this statement, Inu called Khaleda Zia for not to be silly by calling Bangabandhu “Sheikh Saheb,” as it did not suit a former prime minister. “Have due respect to the Father of the Nation.
“I know where lies the discomfort of Begum Khaleda Zia: Gen Zia has been proved to be a murderer. The country's highest court ruled that Gen Zia cold-bloodedly murdered Col Taher. So, Col Taher or JSD are none of the beneficiaries of Bangabandhu murder,” Inu said.
"Also, we demand the trial of Bangabandhu’s killers and war criminals," he added.
“No matter what Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman say to divert public attention, no matter how much nonsense they make, everyone knows that Gen Zia was the first beneficiary of the killing of Bangabandhu, who rewarded the killers, barred the trial, and introduced communal politics with killers and war criminals,” said Inu.
