72 BNP men sent to jail in Natore

A Natore court has sent 72 BNP leaders to jail in four cases filed under speedy trial act.

Natore Chief Judicial Magistrate Liaqat Ali Molla passed the order on Monday noon after canceling the bail prayers.

Court inspector Najibur Rahman confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier, the supporters of upazila BNP and Awami League locked into clashes, leaving seven AL supporters injured and looted Tk1.79 lakh from AL supporter’s house following the council election held on March 23.

Following the post-election violence, four cases were lodged under speedy trial at Natore court against 79 BNP men including Nagar union BNP president Principal Sajdar Rahman and UP member Abdul Mannan.

Local AL activists Jahir Khamaru, son of Korom Ali Khamaru lodged the case under speedy trial act at Natore court on March 30 against 36 BNP activists and supporters while Shamsul Islam, son of Chanch Ali Pramanik lodged another case against 40.
