BNP welcomes AL council

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has welcomed the upcoming 20th council of Awami League to be held on October 22-23. The AL council would take initiatives to bring back democracy in the country, the BNP leader expected. “For the last few years, ruling party did not give any space for any opposition party to observe democratic programme in the country although it has a long tradition of fighting for democracy,” he alleged while talking to reporters at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office on Tuesday. He further alleged that the present government is ruling the country like as an undeclared one-party ruler. “AL had repeatedly killed country's democracy for several times,” he also claimed. Replying to a query from reporters, he informed that the BNP did not get any invitation from Awami League to attend its upcoming council. “After getting the invitation, we will decide on whether we will join the council or not,” said Fakhrul. He hoped that AL will observe their upcoming council peacefully as the oldest political party in the country.
