Quamrul: Militancy originated at Hawa Bhaban

Food Minister Quamrul Islam yesterday said militancy in Bangladesh was originated at notorious Hawa Bhaban with aim to turn the country a communal state.

“Defeated forces of '71, killers of '75, BNP, Jamaat and militants are not different anymore, rather they are joint force now,” he said.

The minister came up with the observation while addressing a human chain formed in front of the National Press Club marking the 9th anniversary of series bombing carried out by Jammat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

Organised by Swechhasebak League, the programme was also addressed by party President Mollah Md Abu Kawser, General Secretary Pankaj Debnath, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Rafikul Islam Liton, Faridur Rahman Iran and Arifur Rahman Titu.

Quamrul said meeting was held in Hawa Bhaban in preparation of the grenade attack (August 21, 2004) on the rally of Awami League. The whole preparation was made by Tarique Rahman, elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
