Nasim: No hindrance to BNP’s movement

The government would not interfere with any issue-based democratic movement undertaken by the BNP, said Health Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday.

He made this remark two days before the BNP rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Tuesday.

Nasim also vowed that there was no possibility of any mid-term election in the country and the next parliamentary election would be held in 2019.

Nasim, a presidium member of ruling Awami League, was speaking at a “Meet the Press” programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium in the capital.

Currently, the main challenge for the health sector is retaining doctors at the workstations they were posted at for two years in a row. If they could be talked into doing this, there would be a noticeable change in the health sector, he said.

The health minister added that newly-appointed doctors had promised to work for two consecutive years at their workstation. If they kept their word, they would be rewarded and added that a posting order would be issued for them within this week.

He urged locals MPs, union chairmen and other health officers to stay alert and ensure the doctors’ presence at their offices. He said Bangladesh would send medicine to Sierra Leon, an Ebola-affected country, very soon. Doctors, nurses and representatives would also be sent to Gaza and the foreign ministry is currently mapping out a route to ensure their safe arrival there.

With DRU President Shahed Chowdhury in the chair, General Secretary Elias Khan, Vice President Rafiqul Islam Azad and Organising Secretary Morsalin Nomani were present at the programme.
