BCL: BNP helped militant forces rise

BNP generated militant forces in Bangladesh to form a Taliban state full of anarchy, said leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, at a protest rally.

Protesting the bomb attack by radical Islamist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen on August 17, 2005, they brought out a rally on the Dhaka University campus yesterday.

The Chhatra League men vowed to thwart such militant activities in the future.

Speaking at the rally, BCL President Badiuzzaman Shohag said: “The militant forces, which were absent before, had grown rapidly during the BNP regime. Khelada Zia and her son Tarique Rahman are the founders of the radical Islamist forces in Bangladesh. They want to turn the country into Afghanistan.”

Demanding exemplary punishment of all the perpetrators of the August 17 incident, he criticised BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for celebrating her birthday on the National Mourning Day on August 15.

BCL Secretary General Siddique Nazmul Alam, Vice-President Imamul Huq Sarkar Titu, Joint Secretary Shamsul Kabir Rahat were present at the programme, among others.

Earlier, the BCL brought out a black flag procession on the campus.
