The BNP yesterday alleged that the National Broadcast Policy was a part of the government’s conspiracy to establish one-party rule in the country.
“The Awami League is advancing towards the one-party system, wearing the mask of democracy. The party never believed in democracy. It has assumed office, using democracy and then later exposed its real face,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting secretary general of the party, said.
Addressing a programme organised by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddher Projonmo at the National Press Club, he said television talk shows had been controlled before formulating the broadcast policy. “What the newspapers will focus have also been controlled.”
The party spokesperson said after formulating the policy, the government would establish its full control over television channels. “Whether the BNP will assume office is not a question; rather the question is whether democracy will be restored in the country.”
Fakhrul said the people would finalise the strategy for the ongoing movement.
