A Dhaka court yesterday deferred the charge framing hearing in a case against 29 BNP men, including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir until October 30.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Masud Sheikh passed the order after hearing on a petition filed by defence counsel seeking time in the case.
Twenty of the accused including Mirza Fakhrul appeared before the court.
On March 2 last year, police filed the case with Ramna police station on charges of detonating explosives, attempting to kill police personnel and preventing the police from discharging their duties.
On May 22, Detective Branch Inspector Fazlur Rahman, also the case investigation officer, submitted a charge sheet in the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
Others accused in the case includes Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Mirza Abbas; joint secretaries general Barakatullah Bulu and Amanullah Aman; and Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman.
BNP leaders Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Azizul Bari Helal, Juba Dal President Moazzam Hossain Alal, Shecchashebok Dal President Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Safu and Chhatra Dal president Abdul Quader were also accused in the case.
