One accused on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court yesterday remanded Abul Monayem Md Aminul Ehsan alias Dish Babu for four days on the charge of involvement in the killing of Jubo League leader Riazul Haque Khan Milky last year.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the order after a 10-day remand plea had been submitted by CID Assistant Commissioner ABM Siddiquer Rahman, also the investigating officer in the case.

Police arrested Babu on Tuesday in connection with the murder.

Abdullah Al Mansur Ripon, counsel for the prosecution, told the Dhaka Tribune that police arrested Babu acting on information provided by the accused in the case.

Milky, 43, organising secretary of the Dhaka city (south) unit of Jubo League, was gunned down on the street in the Gulshan area of the capital on July 30.

On April 15, Md Kajemur Rashid, assistant superintendent of police of RAB 1, submitted a charge sheet before the court accusing 12 people, including 11 Jubo League men, in the murder case.

In view of a no-confidence petition, a Dhaka court on June 17 ordered the CID to re-investigate the case and submit a report by August 10.

Later, Milky’s brother Rashidul Haque Khan registered a murder case with Gulshan police station accusing 11 people, including Chanchal and Zahid Siddiki Tarek.
