BNP: Xi sends message by meeting Khaleda, ignoring Rowshan

BNP on Saturday claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message that it believes in friendship with the people by holding a meeting with the BNP Chairperson ignoring the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Rowshan Ershad. Speaking at a discussion, party standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain also said their party expects China will implement all the deals signed with Bangladesh protecting mutual interests, independence and sovereignty of the two countries, reports UNB. “China believes in friendship with people. It’s a tradition that when Presidents visit any country they talk to both the government and the opposition in parliament of that country,” he said. The BNP leader further said: “The Chinese President has given a clear indication to the country’s people that the Parliament’s opposition party is of no importance as this parliament is an unelected and not a real representation of the people.” Mosharraf, who was present at a meeting between the Chinese President and the BNP chief, made the comments at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) arranged by Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa).

Khaleda Zia had a meeting with the Chinese President at the Le Meridien hotel in the city on Friday evening where she urged Xi Jinping to continue his support e for Bangladesh especially in the development sector. After the meeting, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters that the Chinese President expressed hopes that Bangladesh will support the role China's role in regional geopolitics. Mosharraf said the Chinese President assured that his country will remain beside Bangladesh during in times of need saying: “China will also be there for Bangladesh so that it can be economically stronger.” He said Xi Jinping told the BNP chairperson that his country wants a good friendship between the people of two countries: “The Chinese President also hinted that people are important to them as government comes and goes.” The BNP leader said China had been beside Bangladesh in the past with financial support for its development, not for exploiting it: “It wants to strengthen its in the future.”
