BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday alleged that the government was resorting to killing the people by using the law enforcement agencies as its party “cadres” and “goons.”
“The illegal government which grabbed power by force through the January 5 farcical election has now become desperate since the whole nation has been vocal against it. They are now committing genocide by using law enforcers as their party cadres,” he said in a statement.
The spokesperson of the party said BNP leader SM Biplob was tortured to death by police and ruling party men in Tala upazila of Satkhira.
He said police picked Biplob up and shot him in the name of a “gunfight” before killing him with the help of local ruling party “cadres.”
Protesting the killing, the BNP leader said Awami League can brutally kill people as the party is in the habit of killing people and spreading lies. He demanded the immediate arrest of the killers and exemplary punishment for them.
Earlier in the day, at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that the government had now engaged the police to kill the opposition leaders and activists.
“The police were tasked with the killings and abductions since RAB has tarnished its image by doing so for a long time,” he said.
Condemning Biplob’s murder, he also alleged that the police were now killing innocent people by staging “dramas of gunfights.”
