Fakhrul calls on Ershad to apologise

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has asked Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad to seek apology for making false claims over BNP’s founder Ziaur Rahman.

The BNP spokesperson made the call while addressing a discussion at the National Press Club demanding release of city BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu.

“Ershad has said Ziaur Rahman assumed the office walking over blood. Ershad has made such a claim by writing an open letter in the newspaper. Ziaur Rahman did not occupy power; rather he was given the charge to govern the country through a military-civil revolution,” said Fakhrul.

Highly condemning the remark, Fakhrul asked Ershad to apologise before the nation.

He alleged that Ershad ousted a democratic government from the office and occupied the state power.

“Ershad is the main culprit of today’s polluted image of politics,” said the spokesperson of the party.

Criticising the Awami League leaders and government’s ministers for their different statements, Fakhrul said the way they have been making statements does not belong to any political norms.

“They are used to talk like this because they believe Bangladesh is their forefather’s property,” said Fakhrul.

Calling upon the government to hold election under a non-partisan government, the former minister said: “They fear to hold election because they know they would not get even 20 seats if a free and fair election was held. They are not holding the city corporation elections either.”

Demanding immediate release of Pintu, Fakhrul said: “Pintu is a dedicated leader. He knows how to wage movement against any illegal activity and that is why he became the victim of government’s vengeance.”
