Ashraf: No plan of holding zila parishad poll

The government has no plan to hold the zila parishad election, LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam has said.

The minister said this to the journalists following a query regarding the election after the meeting with DCs.

Ashraf said: “The procedure of zila parishad election is a complex one and the government will think about the necessity of the zila parishad election.”

We need to think about the necessity of the zila parishad election in the present time. However, the government is planning for both the two sides, he added.

Asked about the jurisdiction of removal of the UP chairman and members, the minister said: “According to the existing law, only an elected public representative has the authority. The government has no plan of changing it upon the DCs’ demand.”
