Chhatra Dal activist killed in Sylhet

An activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student affiliate of BNP, has been killed by the activists of a faction of the organisation in Pathantula Fulkoli area of the district.

The deceased was identified as Zillur Rahman Zilu, 30.

Md Rahmat Ullah, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune about the death.

Jalalabad police station Officer-in-Charge Gousul Hossain said police detained two Chhatra Dal activists -- Sayem Ahmed, 30, and Farid Ahmed, 20 -- immediately after the incident.

Sources said Zillur was an activist of Mizan group of JCD, later he joined the Zaman group. The rival group activists stabbed Zillur with sharp weapons in front of Fulkoli around 7pm, leaving him critically injured.

Zillur died on the way to Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Police is suspecting that the supporters of Mizan group have killed Zillur, said the OC.
